This camera is adorable. It’s tiny and clever and just so satisfying to use. That said, it didn’t give me the results I had hoped for. Some of this comes from the same developing and handling missteps I mentioned with my first roll through the Canon Canonet along with my general unfamiliarity at the time with the dynamic range of film. Some of it comes from having to zone focus, which added a level of uncertainty to my entire shooting experience and that I’m still not quite happy with. And some of it comes from the internal light meter on the Minox that maybe isn’t as accurate when using non-mercury batteries. So I only got a hit ratio of 10/24 exposures, same as last roll.
Even though I didn’t get the results I had hoped/planned for, the results I did get surprised me and in many cases I got some of my favorite shots at the time of writing (2022/02) with a texture that I couldn’t replicate if I tried. I know ‘repeatability’ is one of the goals when trying to master any skill, but to me the magic in this whole film photography thing is found in the unexpected.
